Heinz - Ketchup : Saloon

A Heinz ketchup bottle is drinking in a saloon somewhere in the wild west. Then a bottle of ‘catsup’ arrives, after which all the bottles in the saloon scatter. The Heinz bottle, however, remains calmly at the bar, ready for the upcoming ‘duel’: A close-up shows that Heinz ketchup comes out of the bottle much more slowly than its opponent, which soon empties completely and falls to the ground. The Heinz bottle has therefore won the duel.

Trivia

This is one of the films from a series that has been preserved for this museum. Unfortunately, the quality of this scan is poor. The source was an old analogue VHS video tape. The ketchup bottles had many adventures. The selling point in each film was that the ketchup comes out of the bottle so slowly. Actually, it's not even that handy and the dripping substance doesn't look very appetising. Other titles from this series, unfortunately not (yet) on this site, were made in quick succession in 1970.

Heinz was a good customer for Dollywood, because between 1955 and 1965 they also made a series of amusing puppet film commercials. One example is ‘Crying Chief’ from 1962.

Max Keuris

One name that has remained relatively underexposed in the work of Joop Geesink's Dollywood is that of art director Max Keuris. Unlike Henk Kabos, for example, his name was not often shown in the credits. Yet this name should certainly be mentioned because Max Keuris was a very versatile designer. This director was also known for his visual humour, which in this film is exemplified by the ‘nude painting’ of the tomato. Max Keuris made several Heinz films, but also longer productions for Philips, such as ‘The Travelling Tune’ (1961), ‘Philips On Parade’ (1964) and what can be considered his masterpiece: the anniversary film ‘Philips Cavalcade, 75 Years of Music (1966).
