Dutchy - 'Boat'

(1958)

"’Butter as it's buttermost."

Content

Dutchy cruises with his wife in a push boat. A typical boat that farmers used to navigate the shallow Dutch canals. This is a “punter”, a sloop with a pole. A voice says, "It's dreamlike. It's cream like.‘ After a cow moos, another speaker says, ’Butter as it's buttermost.

Trivia

This is an ultra-short advertising film by the standards of the 1950s. At 15 seconds long, it could even still work today. Like Luchtschrijver and the magician, this film is also in black and white. However, this film is specifically aimed at the English-speaking market.

Dutchy disappeared?

Another remarkable aspect of this film is that the closing title, the payoff, shows an illustration of a character with a completely different design than the traditional Dutchy. Here, a man is shown in traditional Volendam costume. The village of Volendam is a fishing village, known in particular for eel fishing.

The illustration of this male logo was used briefly and replaced shortly thereafter by an illustration of a woman, also in traditional Volendam costume. This character would later become known mainly in Germany as Frau Aantje. This logo appears in the film Delft Blue (1966) .
