Content

The Dutch Dairy Agency launched an eye-catching advertising campaign with Dutchy, a typical Dutch character, as the protagonist. In the advert, Dutchy is skating with a girl in a traditional Dutch winter landscape. A rival appears and impresses the girl with his skating skills, leaving Dutchy feeling insecure. After an encouraging word from a little bird, Dutchy drinks a glass of milk, which suddenly gives him superpowers. He beats his rival with ease and even makes him fall through the ice. In the end, Dutchy wins over the girl in front of him and together they skate away. The commercial concludes with the slogan "Drink Milk, Be More of a Man".

Trivia

The Dutchy campaign was so successful that several films were produced. Besides the short advertising film, a longer film " A Dream Comes True" was made simultaneously. In 1955, "Dutchy and the Band Stand" and "Dutchy Rules" followed. These commissions all went to Joop Geesink, the creator of Dutchy. Its success was crowned when "Dutchy on Thin Ice" won an international film award.

Big project

Realise that producing films of this length took several months. A 10-minute film could sometimes take 10 to 12 months of production time. It may be considered extraordinary that so much high-quality puppet animation was produced in such a short production time.
